Bloons Tower Defense (also known as Bloons TD) is a series of tower defence games under the Bloons series created and produced by Ninja Kiwi. The game was originally developed as a browser game based on the Adobe Flash platform and released in mid-2007.In June 2018, Bloons TD 6, the sixth game in the Bloons Tower Defense series, was released for iOS and Android.Bloons TD 6 became the best-selling app within the first week of its release, It has received a large number of positive reviews. Stephen Knightley, Secretary of the New Zealand Game Developers Association, praised the depth of Bloons TD 6's gameplay, particularly its visual appeal to a general audience and its complexity for more experienced players: "It's fun and friendly, so easy to access, but under the surface it's complex". So let's now have a look at Bloons TD 6.

The core gameplay of Bloons TD 6 is the same as the other games in the Bloons Tower Defence series, Bloons TD 6 is a tower defence game. Bloons TD 6 uses 3D graphics in its gameplay but plays mainly in a 2D perspective. In Bloons TD 6, the player creates a defence consisting of towers to prevent enemy balloons from reaching the exit. The balloons are generated in different waves, separated by 'wheels', and will travel along one or more designated paths to their intended exit. Each turn usually consists of a pre-determined group of balloons, which then generate balloons with special properties and behaviours that may have weaknesses in certain defences. Money is earned by blasting balloons, which can be used to purchase additional towers or upgrade existing towers to strengthen defences. Each type of tower and its upgrades plays a different role in the defence, mainly in the offensive role. Most towers can affect Bloons by directly damaging them, slowing them down or otherwise damaging them, while some towers support other towers or generate income to boost defences. Maps are chosen by the player, starting with the less difficult ones. Completing the game on a map unlocks a more difficult map. Different game modes can be played, each with different rules.

Bloons TD 6 adds additional gameplay mechanics that were not available in previous games. Special types of towers called 'heroes' are automatically upgraded once placed, making them more powerful as the game progresses, but players can only place one selected hero per game. Some maps contain obstacles that prevent certain towers from seeing or attacking them.

Players have access to a type of in-game currency called 'Monkey Money' which can be redeemed by completing games to unlock other features in the game. Another currency called "Monkey Knowledge Points" can be redeemed in an unlockable upgrade tree called "Monkey Knowledge" which unlocks unique upgrades that can be used freely in most game modes. Monkey money can be used to unlock powers, new heroes, certain accessories and, in combination with Monkey Knowledge Points, deeper levels of Monkey Knowledge. "Trophies are a rare currency that can be redeemed in the Trophy Shop to unlock special cosmetic items that cannot be unlocked with Monkey Money.

In addition to the standard game modes, there are other game modes with special rules that do not exist in the normal game. Custom challenges can be created in the Challenge Editor and can be played by any user using the Challenge Browser. Odyssey mode is a special game mode in which a set of towers and selected heroes are selected to journey to beat a predetermined number of different games in each stage and under a restricted set of rules within each stage. Race Events works in a similar way to the normal game, with the difference that players can choose to send rounds earlier to get to time as quickly as possible.

Co-op mode is a multiplayer mode with up to 4 players per game. Gameplay in Co-Op mode is much the same as most of the single player modes in Bloons TD 6, except that players can transfer money to each other to assist in defence and money earned through normal means is distributed to all players.
